This S26341-F105-L805 NAS (network-attached storage) device, unlike normal external hard drives, can be directly integrated to your network. It also needs far less power than regular PCs and offers you over enough space for all your data. The desktop NAS device has two USB 2.0 ports as well as four Gigabit Ethernet ports and is equipped with an Intel Celeron J1900 2 GHz processor. The 2 GB RAM allows several users to access data at the same time. This desktop NAS system has the following data storage forms available: 0, 6, 10, 5 + hot spare, 5, 1 and JBOD. Using a JBOD architecture to create a multi-disk storage space means you can combine hard drives of random sizes and will not lose the storage capacity of any of them. This is not the case with RAID levels.

When using RAID 0, hard drives (ideally of equal storage capacities) are interconnected and work in parallel — this means a higher, faster performance as computer tasks are not handled by just one drive. However, there is no fault tolerance because data is not mirrored, which means this RAID level is better suited for high speed storage of large volumes of data. RAID 1 offers you high data security through data mirroring. A replica is created of all your data from one drive to another, meaning if one crashes you will still retain all of your information. This also means that the capacity of all your drives is halved because of duplicated content. For smaller NAS systems RAID 1 is an ideal option. Using RAID 5 means your data is split among multiple hard drives — when one drive has an error the data is copied and distributed to the other drives.
